Axols are a young race of axolotl humanoids standing about four feet tall. Due to the kraken Kog'sumoth's rampant consumption of magical artifacts, he accidentally created the perfect conditions for the evolution of Axols in his belly. After swallowing a stray group of regular axolotls, they were exposed to magic that sped up the growth of their species.
Axols developed a peaceful, spiritual society built around the worship of a fictional god called the "Giver". Their entire perception of the world was limited to Kog'sumoth's magical interior, which they believed the Giver created for them as a garden of paradise in which to flourish. Subsequent travelers, ships, and artifacts swallowed were considered gifts from the Giver.
Opposed to the Giver were the "Takers", also known as the Karkoon who inhabited Kog'sumoth. The main conflict between the two species was the Axol propensity to collect and hoard magic artifacts, and the Karkoon desire to take those artifacts and use them to escape Kog'sumoth's body. This rivalry has all but vanished now that Kog'sumoth is dead.
Family Life

Axols laid eggs and placed their young inside of sacs in Kog'sumoth's body, allowing the shells to disintegrate and Kog'sumoth's anti-magic fluids to imbue their children with anti-magic properties. Most Axols grew up completely immune to magical effects due to this quirk of their upbringing.
The cult surrounding the Giver fell apart when a mortal hero named for the god of war slayed Kog'sumoth. The Axols were forced to leave the paradise their Giver provided, and find a new home.
The Axols Today
In the wake of Kog'sumoth's body decaying, the Axols have made a deep-sea settlement in the benthic pits in his skeletal remains. They send adventurous Axols out into the world to find out who, what, and where they fit into the world.
Unfortunately, now that Kog'sumoth is dead, the Axols are no longer able to retain their immunity to magic; however, they still possess some genetic ability to resist it.
