The waters of Ilisara are teeming with life. Not only are they home to a massive society of nomadic merfolk, but thousands of varieties of fish, sharks, squid, and other seafaring creatures can be found in the ocean.

The Veil's Waters
This inland sea is bordered on all sides by the Twin Crescents' landmasses. At its very center is a mystical island guarded by a giant reptilian monster. The island is a rift between realms called the Veil which allows passage to and from other universes. The Veil is a remnant of the godwars. The sea is relatively easy to traverse (apart from the well-guarded center), and is notably home to the Citadel of Ten Thousand Pearls — the capital of all merfolk and siren culture in the Crescents.
Galean Ocean
The Galean Ocean encompasses all of the ocean east of the Isles and south of them. It is bordered by the Rian Ocean and the Sea of Kings.
The current in the Galean Ocean is quite violent. It has a “sucking” effect towards the massive waterfall (The Edge of the World) that cuts its waters off to the east. Most naval travel in this area is done extremely close to land, or simply conducted on the western side of the continents.
The Galean Ocean is fed by upwellings of water beneath the Kraken’s Eye.
The Tanukin Sea
The Tanukin Sea is small, bordered by the Azure Empire. Its southern border isn’t well defined and it simply bleeds into the Rian Ocean. There are dozens of sea creatures found in the protected Tanukin Sea coral reefs that aren’t found elsewhere, such as:
Tanukin rice fish
Blackfin flounder
Rikuzen flounder
Flying fish
Fourspine sculpin
Aona manta ray
Certain black-striped varieties of dolphin, called “Blackfin” in Common or “Heisedin” in the local dialect, are found in these waters. Some merfolk also call the Tanukin Sea home.
The Rian Ocean
The Rian Ocean is a massive, deep ocean that encompasses the entire North, West, and parts of the Southern area of the Isles. Its climate patterns of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres generally mirror each other. It is much less violent than the Galean Ocean, and relatively easy to sail by denizens of Ilisara.
The Sea of Kings
For centuries the Sea of Kings has been a key avenue of trade and travel. It touches all of the developed landmasses in Ilisara. The Sea of Kings encompasses the Twin Crescents and all of the inland ocean surrounding it.
The Sea of Kings is subject to immense upwelling from beneath the Twin Crescents, and is fed by the massive amount of rivers pouring from the mountainous regions of the Azure Empire and Beruna’s icemelt and glacial offflow. It is the main source that the Edge of the World draws from – sucking water around and eroding the Kingdoms of Aldemere and Oros’s outer edges in a heavy current.
