The Edge of the World, as it is called by Ilisara's inhabitants, is a massive continent-sized waterfall that leads into an abyss.

Although it is only now becoming common knowledge, below the waterfall lies the famed Sunken World. The Sunken World is the home of demonkind (the Inferni).

Location

The "Edge of the World" extends for hundreds of miles east of the Isles (map by victoria_fantasy_art)

Below the Waterfall

Beneath the Edge of the World lies a volatile Sunken World riddled in active volcanoes. It is a part of Ilisara's upper planetary crust laid bare. This massive "hole" in the world was caused in the godwars long ago, when Hejong, god of war, picked up a continent and hurled it at another god during a fight. The people of the Isles have varying legends about how the waterfall came to exist.

Reception in the Isles

The Edge of the World is hundreds of miles long and comprises part of the border to the Galean Ocean. Most ships do not sail on the eastern side of the continents, else they risk being caught in the powerful currents that draw water down the Edge of the World and into the sunken realm below.

Until recent times, the Edge of the World has largely been regarded as a literal "end" of the world, and denizens of Ilisara questioned whether or not the world was truly a sphere or flat.

The Waterfall's Replenishment

The waterfall is powered by tectonic activity beneath the Kraken’s Eye, which creates an endless upwelling of water. If one were to remove the ocean water, the Twin Crescents (which sit at the center of the Kraken’s Eye) would be the peaks of two mountains inside a giant volcano caldera. Not only does this explain where the water comes from, but also the volcano Mok'gram's selective dormancy: it is actually just a small part of a much bigger super volcano. The supervolcano has been inactive ever since the water upwelling made the entire core cool.

Because the Sunken World beyond the waterfall is a minefield of active volcanoes, the misty marine layer at the Edge of the World has bright red flashes of lightning and ash mixing with the mist from the waterfall.
