Passives
Introduction
Passives are minor, flavorful additions to your character that provide extra capabilities inside or outside of combat. They come from several different sources.

Attribute Passives: As you add more points to your Attributes, you gain passives related to your stats.

Background Passives: Backgrounds give unique and flavorful passives that have an out-of-combat benefit. Visit the Backgrounds page to view all Backgrounds and their associated Passives.

Combat Passives: Each character may only have two combat passives. Combat passives are acquired by leveling up, and provide minor gains in-combat.

About
Combat Passives give your character a unique edge in combat. You can choose from the basic Combat Passives in the following table, or create your own. Combat Passives should always have an in-character justification tied to your character's backstory.

Create Your Own
To create a balanced Combat Passive, you should think about what your objective is. Do you want to add a small bonus that is always active for your character, or a bigger bonus that requires some kind of condition to be met?
For example, a small bonus is a +1 to attack or damage rolls. A frost mage could choose to always deal +1 damage with ice attacks. Alternatively, they might choose a bigger boon, and deal +2 damage to enemies that are frozen in place. The latter requires the frost mage to meet a condition.

You may also wish to get inventive and increase Initiative bonuses, healing, or resistance to status effects. Imaginative combat passives are encouraged.

Combat Passive Guidelines
-
Regular Combat Passives: +1 bonus to Attack or Damage rolls
-
Conditional Combat Passives: +2 bonus to Attack or Damage rolls, if a specific condition is met. Conditions should not be broad enough to occur 100% of the time. Aim for conditions that will likely occur about 25-50% of the time for your character in combat.
-
Nonconforming Combat Passives: Some passives just don't follow the patterns listed above. Work with your Storyteller to design a passive that suits your character, or reflavor a passive from the table below.
